Report: Raiders to be without Amari Cooper versus Chiefs

New, comments

Amari Cooper will not have a chance to duplicate his career performance against the Chiefs this week.

Cooper missing Wednesday and Thursday’s practice was a pretty sure sign he wouldn’t play Sunday when the team heads to Kansas City. Ahead of the official designation on the final injury report, ESPN’s Dan Graziano says Cooper is expected to miss the game.

As of Wednesday’s injury report, Cooper had come off the concussion protocol. He had suffered the concussion two weeks ago on a hard hit from Broncos’ safety Darian Stewart. On the same play, he suffered a sprained ankle. That injury has lingered and will cause him to miss his second straight start.

In the Raiders’ last meeting with the Chiefs, Cooper put up career numbers with 11 catches for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns and the then 2-4 Raiders were able to pull out a thrilling 31-30 win over the then 5-1 Chiefs.

The Raiders have been able to win the past two games despite Cooper’s injury and Michael Crabtree’s suspension in part to the team’s reserve wide receivers stepping up, most notably Cordarrelle Patterson who has been the team’s leading receiver both games. Crabtree returns this week, but once again the trio of Patterson, Seth Roberts and Johnny Holton will attempt to make up for the loss of Cooper.
