Breaking: Raiders sign Jack Del Rio to new 4-year deal

At the close of the business day Friday, the Raiders have taken care of a major piece of business. The team has signed Jack Del Rio to a new 4-year contract.

“The Raiders have torn up Jack Del Rio’s original contract and rewarded him with a new four-year deal,” Mark Davis said in a statement. “We are excited to continue building on the strong foundation that has been established and this is a significant step in achieving that goal.”

Del Rio was 2 years through his original 4-year deal he signed with the team prior to the 2015 season.

Over his first two season coaching the team he grew up a fan, the Raiders have gone 19-13 including 12-4 last season with the franchise’s first trip to the playoffs in 14 years.

That was apparently plenty for Mark Davis to know he had made the right choice in luring the former 9-year Jaguars head coach to Oakland. Del Rio had spent the previous three seasons as Defensive Coordinator in Denver
