Moving a major sports team is a big deal to a lot of people. It affects entire regions as well as the other sports teams in that area. Currently still sharing a stadium site with the Raiders are the Golden State Warriors who play in Oracle area literally 20 yards across the platform from the Coliseum.
Soon the Warriors — who brought an NBA championship to Oakland two seasons ago — will also be leaving for greener pastures. But their journey takes them a few stops down the BART line to San Francisco. The Raiders move takes them to another state.
A more Warriors forward Draymond Green this is a travesty, telling local reporters “I feel bad for the city of Oakland. I don’t even know how that’s gonna work, honestly.. With the football team moving to Las Vegas.”
“If I was the fans, I wouldn’t attend a game for the next three years. But that’s just me. That’s ridiculous. No way I’d pay my money to attend a game. And you’re leaving one of the most... that’s like moving the Dallas Cowboys or like Moving the Packers. Moving the Raiders? You can move a lot of teams [but] ain’t many fan bases like the Raiders fan base. Like moving the Boston Celtics or the Lakers from LA. Like, you just don’t move certain franchises.”
“It’s one thing you were moving them from Oakland to Fremont or something, but to Las Vegas? I wouldn’t attend a game. I won’t attend a game, but I’m not a diehard Raider fan, but I do support the City of Oakland. And I feel like all fans should feel that way. You just don’t do that.”
