Combine day 2 open thread: Quarterbacks, receivers, tight ends

New, comments

Today is the day for pass throwers and pass catchers to shine.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, Raider Nation! The NFL Combine is upon us and Saturday is Day 2. Today the quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends will show their stuff for pro scouts. While the Raiders have their franchise quarterback already, they could be looking for help at wideout and tight end.

While this quarterback class is a little weak overall, there are some very good proepects to be had. Mitch Trubisky will likely be the first one taken with Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes also getting strong first-round consideration. Their workouts will determine where they go, as all have impressive game tape.

The receiver crop this year is very strong. Corey Davis and Mike Williams are at the top, though neither will run the 40-yard dash. The prospect that intrigues me the most is Eastern Washington WR Cooper Kupp, who is probably the best overall player at the FCS level. Oklahoma's Dede Westbrook, a Heisman finalist, could move up from his mid-round projection with a good workout.

At tight end, Oregon's Pharaoh Brown measured out like a monster, and it's remarkable that he's even still in football after suffering a horrific injury in college where he nearly lost his leg. Let's see if Brown's workout can match his measurables. Jake Butt, OJ Howard and Miami's David Njoku are also names to watch.
