For some reason the Raiders waited until the first day of the new league year to make it official, but the team has named Rod Woodson as the team’s cornerbacks coach. He will split duties among the defensive backfield with Brent Vieselmeyer coaching the safeties.
Woodson was the team’s assistant defensive backs coach under Marcus Robertson the past two seasons. While Vieselmeyer switches positions, moving over from assistant linebackers coach the past two seasons.
Robertson’s contract was up after last season and he was not retained. Who was to replace him was the last remaining coaching move that had yet to be announced.
The other move made on the defensive side of the ball was the hiring of former Chargers Defensive Coordinator John Pagano as the team’s Assistant Head Coach - Defense. Ken Norton Jr remains the team’s Defensive Coordinator.
On the offensive side of the ball, Bill Musgrave was not retained as offensive coordinator and QB coach Todd Downing was promoted to the position.
