NCAA mens tournament Final Four North Carolina vs Oregon: Game time, TV schedule, open thread

New, comments

The first game of tonight’s double header between South Carolina and Gonzaga lived up to the hype with the Zags pulling out a close win over the Gamecocks 77-73. Now coming up immediately afterward at 5:49 pm Pacific (8:49 ET) on CBS is top seeded North Carolina vs 3 seed Oregon from Glendale Arizona.

Oregon represents the Midwest region, coming off a shockingly dominant win over the top seed Kansas Jayhawks in front of a Jayhawk crowd in Kansas City. They got there with wins over 14 seed Iona, 11 seed Rhode Island, and a hard fought one-point escape of 7 seed Michigan in the Sweet 16.

This is the Ducks’ first trip to the Final Four since the very first ever NCAA tournament in 1939. They would go on to win that tournament, but had never made it past the Elite 8 in the 77 years since.

North Carolina is no stranger to deep NCAA tournament runs. The Tarheels are coming off as exciting a finish to a game you’ll see as they pulled out the 75-73 win over 2 seed Kentucky with both teams hitting late clutch shots. Prior to that game, the Heels hadn’t run into much turbulence en route to the Final Four. They handled 16 seed Texas Southern by 39 points, then took down 8 seed Arkansas by 7, and 4 seed Butler by 12.

Hopefully this one lives up to each of these two teams’ Elite 8 match-ups.
