As the Raiders entered their OTA practices this week and taking the field with a new number was second year quarterback, Connor Cook.
Cook will wear now wear number 18. He wore number 8 as a rookie, appearing in two games, and making his first career start in the team’s wildcard playoff loss to the Texans.
Cook wore number 18 at Michigan State, but when the Raiders drafted him in the fourth round last year, they already had number 18 Andre Holmes on the roster. This off season Holmes left as a free agent. The number became available and Cook took it.
The 6-4, 220-pound quarterback figures to be the team’s primary backup this season behind Derek Carr. Also in the mix is veteran former first round pick EJ Manuel who comes over as a free agent signing from the Buffalo Bills.
This is the first of three weeks of OTA’s for the Raiders over the next three weeks.
