Raiders Khalil Mack receives Pro Butkus Award

New, comments

The accolades continue to pile up for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

Raiders pass rusher Khalil Mack received the Pro Butkus Award at training camp today. Dick Butkus and his son, Matt presented Mack the award in front of the team. Mack was a finalist for the award last season as one of the leagues best linebackers. With 73 tackles, 11.0 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, and one interception this season, Mack was an easy choice.

“Khalil Mack was the most disruptive defender in football in 2016 and possesses the drive, determination and on-field dominance required of a future, first-ballot Hall of Famer. He often was unblockable and was the deciding factor in many Raiders victories last season. He is the definition of what the Butkus Award represents with his rare work habits, preparation and passion for the game,” said the Butkus Award selection committee.

This is one in a long line of awards the All-Pro will undoubtedly be the recipient of. Perhaps in the near future we will be reading about the winner of the Khalil Mack Award.
