Over at NFL.com. Elliott Harrison opined on who is top five AFC MVP candidates were. Among them were two Raiders players — Derek Carr and Khalil Mack. Here is how is top 5 stacked up:
1. Tom Brady
2. Derek Carr
3. Antonio Brown
4. Khalil Mack
5. Andrew Luck
Harrison said of Carr that he could’ve been the MVP last year. He pointed to the 513-yard, come-from-behind OT win in Tampa and then what the Raiders looked like after he was injured last season in the finale in Denver and the Wild Card loss in Houston. He adds that Lynch’s addition will only help Carr and the Raiders close out games.
For Mack’s part, Harrison pointed to two regular games he saw the past two years that were won by a defensive player — Khalil Mack against the Panthers in 2016 and Khalil Mack against the Broncos in 2015.
In that Panthers game, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year intercepted a Cam Newton pass in point blank range and walked into the end zone for the score. He later sealed the Raiders win with a sack. That Broncos game in 2015, Mack sacked Brock Osweiler five times -- all in the second half -- to defeat the eventual Super Bowl champs.
