DE Jimmy Bean
Mr Bean was signed to the Raiders practice squad early last season and spent most of the season there. The team then brought him back in January on a reserve/future contract.
The Ontario California native went undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2016 due to tearing his ACL during his senior season. The injury took the entire offseason to be completely healthy, leading to no team signing him until the Raiders in early September.
The injury occurred 7 games into an outstanding senior season with Bean having already put up career numbers, compiling 5.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. He had worked himself squarely onto the NFL draft radar before the injury, and had he kept that pace over a full season he would have had some day two buzz. If he can fully recover from his injury, the Raiders have a potential gem on their hands.
Who wore it best: DE Greg Townsend
Originally a 4th round pick by the Raiders in the 1983 draft and had an immediate impact. He had 10.5 sacks as a rookie and helped the Raiders to win Super Bowl XVIII. He played 13 seasons in the NFL, all but one of which for the Raiders. He continued to be a sack machine throughout his career, amassing a franchise record 107.5 sacks. For the first nine years of his career he averaged over 10 sacks a season, reaching the Pro Bowl in 90 and 91.
