Six drafted NFL rookies still left unsigned, two are Raiders

New, comments

A third of the remaining drafted rookies still unsigned are Raiders selections.

As of this moment, there are 6 drafted rookies left unsigned. And two of them are Raiders players. They are the Raiders’ top two draft picks, Gareon Conley and Obi Melifonwu.

The latest rookie to sign his deal was Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes who was chosen at 10 overall. That leaves these six picks still left unsigned:

Round 1, pick 3 — Soloman Thomas, San Francisco 49ers

Round 1, pick 5 — Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans

Round 1, pick 6 — Jamal Adams, New York Jets

Round 1, pick 24 — Gareon Conley, Oakland Raiders

Round 1, pick 25 — Jabril Peppers, Cleveland Browns

Round 2, pick 56 -- Obi Melifonwu, Oakland Raiders

As you can see, the Raiders are the only team with two picks still unsigned. Obi Melifonwu is the lowest drafted player yet to officially sign his rookie contract and the only player chosen in the second round.

Some have wondered if perhaps Conley being unsigned is related to his pending sexual assault allegations, but Melifonwu not having signed suggests that is not the reason.

The last Raiders rookie to sign his deal with the Raiders was third round pick Eddie Vanderdoes back on July 5. They had signed all lower picks prior to that.

As we know, the Raiders tend to tie up loose ends on Friday, so I would be on the look out for a possible announcement then.

The next date to keep in mind is next Monday, July 24, which is when the rookies report to Napa for their three-day pre-camp warm-up. If they aren’t signed before that, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have the papers ready to be signed when the rookies arrive.

If not by Monday, then we can raise some concern.
