The Raiders signed all their late-round picks weeks ago, but they still had yet to sign their top two picks. That changed today when the Raiders agreed to terms with safety/cornerback Obi Melifonwu, the team’s second-round pick out of the University of Connecticut. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
We have signed second round pick Obi Melifonwu.

The 6’4”, 229-pound Melifonwu is expected to be a key backup this season, and may see time at safety and possibly slot cornerback as well. Melifonwu was a coveted prospect by many of us here at Silver and Black Pride and he and last year’s first round pick Karl Joseph could form one of the most dangerous and talented safety duos in the league in the coming seasons.
First-round selection CB Gareon Conley is the only Raiders draft pick to remain unsigned. His possible legal troubles combined with the fact that contracts are not guaranteed under the CBA at his draft slot make negotiations tricky, but hopefully he will join Melifonwu as an officially signed Oakland Raider soon.
