Raiders celebrate alumni day by bringing back George Atkinson III

New, comments

It was Alumni day at Raiders camp today. The day we hear the phrase “Once a Raider Always a Raider”. That phrase seems to hold a new meaning for George Atkinson III who the team re-signed today for the sixth time. That’s right, the sixth time.

Not only that, but with there being 43 days left, we profiled GA3’s dad George Atkinson as the best to ever wear the number 43. And GA3 is mentioned in that profile.

Here’s the tracker of GA3’s NFL career:

2014

May 16 -- Signed as undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame

Aug 30 — Waived in final roster cuts

Sep 1 — Signed to practice squad

Nov 29 -- Signed to active roster (5 games, 7 kick returns 134 yards)

2015

Sep 5 — Waived in final roster cuts

Sep 7 — Signed to practice squad

Sep 22 — Released from practice squad

Nov 17 — Re-signed to practice squad

2016

Jan 4 -- Signed to reserve-future contract

Sep 3 — Waived in final roster cuts

Sep 4 — Claimed off waivers by Browns (16 games, 8 kick returns, 137 yards)

2017

July 28 -- Waived by Browns

July 29 — Claimed off waivers by Raiders

That’s a total of 7 times in three years George Atkinson has been signed. Eight if you include the time the Raiders called him up to the active roster from the practice squad. There’s good money in that.
