We’re now inside two weeks until the Raiders’ season opener and just a few days from their final preseason game. Just 13 days remain until real football that matters. As far as ‘unlucky’ numbers go in Oakland, that belongs to number 2. But number 13 has not had a great run either.
Apparently not many players are itching to wearing either, considering not only is no one wearing it currently, but someone has suited up in the number 13 for the Raiders for a total of 8 games over the past 25 years.
Who wore it best: QB Jay Schroeder (1988-91)
He went to the Pro Bowl in 1986 in his second season in the league and got a Super Bowl ring as a backup in Washington in 1987. The following season, he joined the Raiders.
The UCLA product started 57 games over five seasons with the Raiders, leading them to winning records in his only two seasons as the full time starter and a playoff win in 1990. He still owns Raiders records for the two highest passer rating in a game — 158.2 vs Seattle November 1991, 149.2 at Minnesota December 1990. He finished his Raiders career with 10,276, 66 TD’s and 62 INT’s.
