Raiders countdown to kickoff: 38 is TJ Carrie, who wore it best?

New, comments

If we were counting down to the first day of NFL football, that counter would be at zero today because the first preseason game of the year is on tonight. But this is a countdown to not just football that means something, but Raiders football. That number is at 38, so let’s take a look at number 38 for the Raiders.

CB TJ Carrie

A seventh round pick in the 2014 draft, he took everyone by surprise by being one of the best corners on the team as a rookie. While DJ Hayden was struggling to be a legit NFL cornerback, let alone a legit first round pick, Carrie was outplaying his draft status.

Carrie has appeared in 44 games for the Raiders over three seasons, with 21 starts and many others playing the slot corner spot. The Antioch native and De La Salle grad is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will be in a battle with rookie Gareon Conley for the nickel corner job.

Along with his cornerback duties, Carrie will also occasionally return a punt or a kick. He has returned 52 punts the past three seasons for 387 yards (7.4 yards per return( and as a rookie also returned 15 kicks for 362 yards (24.1 yards per return).

Who wore it best: TJ Carrie (2014- present)

Believe it or not, there’s never been a number 38 for the Raiders to wear it with more distinction than Carrie. He has intercepted 3 passes with 21 passes defended in his young career. He can add to that this season.
