Today the Raiders agreed to terms with free agent linebacker/defensive end Rufus Johnson according to Johnson’s agent, Sean Stellato.
The 6-5, 280-pounder becomes the latest Washington castoff to come to Oakland. He has been waived back in May, after having joined the team’s practice squad late last season.
Johnson just yesterday was in a serious accident that totaled out his car. Clearly he was able to walk away from it unscathed if he’s able to sign with an NFL team the next day. That’s quite a turn of events, not to mention twist of fate.
He was originally a 6th round pick by the Saints out of Tarleton State. After spending his first season on the practice squad, he was waived in the final roster cuts the following year.
Johnson has been active for just one NFL game with the Patriots in 2015.
At that size, he is probably won’t be dropping into coverage a whole lot.
