Raiders get 4 drafted rookies back at practice, 4 starters still out

New, comments

A day after Jack Del Rio showed his displeasure with how many rookies were not practicing after a day off, low and behold four of them returned to practice.

Back in the fold after missing practice were second round pick safety Obi Melifonwu, third round pick defensive lineman Eddie Vanderdoes, fourth round pick offensive tackle David Sharpe, and seventh round pick offensive tackle Jylan Ware.

Update: Melifonwu was suited up, but spent almost the entirety of practice on the sideline. The only time he came onto the field was in a walk-thru portion as a body and did minimal movement. He was clearly not ready to go, walking gingerly with minimal movement.

The only drafted rookie not practicing is top pick Gareon Conley who has been out all of camp purportedly with shin splints.

Two undrafted rookies also returned. Defensive end Fadol Brown had been out since the first camp practice, he was suited up, though appears to be watching for the most part, and linebacker LaTroy Lewis.

Still missing from practice were 2016 starters Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, Jihad Ward, and Donald Penn. Mack was out yesterday. There is always a question with one day out if it’s just a veteran day off. This confirms it was not. Coop has been out since early last week, missing six practices. Ward has been on PUP all camp. And Penn is still holding out of camp due to contract issues.

Others still out include safety Keith McGill (broken foot), center Jon Feliciano (PUP), linebacker Ben Heeney (NFI), tight end Cooper Helfet (NFI).
