NFL: Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Giorgio Tavecchio was named the Raiders season opening kicker, replacing Sebastian Janikowski who was sent in Injury Reserve with a back injury.

Tavecchio grabbed ahold of the job, going 4 for 4 on field goals and 2 for 2 on extra points in the team’s season opening win over the Titans and has been named the AFC Special Teams player of the week for his performance.

Among those field goals were two 52-yarders, making Tavecchio the first kicker in NFL history to make two field goals of 50 yards or more in his debut. He also had a 43-yarder with just over a minute left in the game which put the Raiders up by 10 points, clinching the victory 26-16.

The left footed kicker had spent parts of the past four offseasons as the safety net for Sebastian Janikowski for offseason practices, training camp, and preseason. He was named my Top Baller for the Raiders season opener.
