In one of the more shocking moves by the Raiders so far, it would appear the only defensive free agent their signed this offseason is now gone. Jelani Jenkins took to Instagram today saying “#RaiderNation it’s been real’
This is especially a shocker considering Jenkins was showing himself to be one of the better options in an overall very weak inside linebacker group.
Jenkins was a 4-year veteran having spent the first part of his career with the Miami Dolphins. He had signed a one-year deal with the Raiders and at one time was the favorite to replace the departed Malcolm Smith at the weakside linebacker spot.
His release also shows just how much uncertainty there is at the position. The favorites for the starting spots are now second year man Cory James, rookie Marquel Lee, and former practice squad player Tyrell Adams. Though picking up a player off waivers is also a distinct possibility.
Update: Jenkins was placed in injured reserve. See the entire official list of roster moves.
