After an outstanding preseason, the Raiders were put in a difficult spot as to what to do with undrafted rookie LaTroy Lewis. The decision they came to was to waive Lewis according to a source.
The hope is that Lewis will clear waivers so they can place him on the practice squad. That’s a risky move considering what he put on tape in four preseason games.
Lewis started the preseason with a 2.0 sack game in Arizona, putting him squarely on the radar. He received just 14 snaps (19%) in the team’s second preseason game.
In the third preseason game -- when the first team plays the most snaps — Lewis saw just ten snaps (15%). One of those, he recovered a fumble off a strip sack and returned it 65 yards for a score. Then in the final preseason game in 48 snaps, he had a sack and tied for the team lead with 7 tackles (4 solo).
Those plays could have some team claim him off waiver. They have 24 hours to do so.
