With the blessing of their owner, and after seeing the protests across the NFL today, the Raiders stepped up and sat down for the National Anthem prior to their Sunday Night game in Washington. And there was no half hearted attempt either.
Not every single player was sitting or kneeling for the Anthem — Derek Carr appeared to be among those who stood — but a large contingent of them were seated.
The only group we expected for sure was the offensive line. But the demonstration ended up including a lot more than that.
It included what appears to be most of the defense with players like Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin, Mario Edwards, Eddie Vanderdoes, Denico Autry, James Cowser, Reggie Nelson, Karl Joseph, Sean Smith, David Amerson, and TJ Carrie all taking a seat with arms locked.
Derek Carr appeared to be standing in prayer. Other standing included Cory James, Nicholas Morrow Jon Condo also stood.
Some Washington players also knelt, though only a handful of players.
