Among the 44 players claimed off waivers, just one Raiders player was among them. It was Ian Silberman who was claimed by the Colts.
Silberman was called ‘the biggest story on the line in camp’ by Raiders offensive line coach Mike Tice. The former guard/tackle converted to center this offseason, after having never played the position at any level.
By the time training camp came around, he had beaten out former third string center Oni Omoile and Tice said plainly at one point that they were keeping Silberman. What he meant when he said that was keeping him on the practice squad, just as Omoile had been last season. Jon Feliciano is the primary backup behind Rodney Hudson.
To do that, the team had to risk losing Silberman because to get to the practice squad, he would have to clear waivers. He didn’t.
All others did clear waivers. According to sources, those players expected to return to Raiders practice squad are as follows as well as those confirmed to be returning.
RB Elijah Hood - Confirmed per report
WR Keon Hatcher - Confirmed per source
WR Isaac Whitney - Confirmed per report
TE Pharaoh Brown - Per Brown himself
DL Fadol Brown - Confirmed per source
LB LaTroy Lewis - Opted to sign onto the Houston Texans’ practice squad
CB Breon Borders - Confirmed per source
OL Jordan Simmons - Confirmed per source
LB Shilique Calhoun - Per official NFL transactions
All of the above signings are official per NFL transactions wire.
In total the team may have 10 players on the practice squad. Most of whom should come from their own waived players. Some will be from by other teams’ cuts.
