As we said last week, it was expected that Derek Carr would be named to the Pro Bowl, replacing Tom Brady. Now it’s official; even after his worst season since his rookie campaign, Derek Carr has been named to his third Pro Bowl.
The reason it was expected last week is because Tom Brady injured his finger in practice which meant whether the Patriots headed to the Super Bowl or not, Brady would be opting out.
Carr was a second alternate this year behind Alex Smith who already head to Orlando to replace the injured Philip Rivers.
Carr becomes the fifth Raiders player selected for the 2018 Pro Bowl, joining Khalil Mack, Donald Penn, Kelechi Osemele, and Rodney Hudson. Mack and Penn will not play in the game, both opting out for injury reasons.
The Raiders fourth-year signal caller becomes the third QB in franchise history to be named to at least three Pro Bowls, joining Ken Stabler and Rich Gannon, who each earned four selections.
