Raiders 2018 offseason schedule, events calendar

It’s officially official now. With the Pro Bowl behind us, the Raiders offseason has begun. It will be nearly 7 months before the Raiders take the field again for a game. But as is said so often, there is no offseason, really. There’s still plenty of things happening. Here’s the important dates to remember.

All times are Pacific.

February

February 3 NFL Honors Show

February 3 Hall of Fame class of 2018 announced

February 4 Super Bowl LII, U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

February 5 Waiver system begins for 2018.

February 20 First day for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

February 27-March 5 NFL Scouting Combine, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana.

March

March 2-5 Coin flip to decide who gets 9th and 10th pick in 2018 NFL Draft between Raiders and 49ers.

March 6 at 1:00 pm. Deadline for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

March 12-14 Free Agent negotiating period where clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with agents for players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents.

March 14 Prior to 1:00 pm, clubs must exercise options for 2018 on all players who have option clauses in their 2017 contracts. Clubs must submit qualifying offers to their Restricted Free Agents with expiring contracts to retain a Right of First Refusal/Compensation. Clubs must submit a minimum salary tender to retain exclusive negotiating rights to their players with expiring 2017 contracts who have fewer than three accrued seasons of free agency credit.

March 14 at 1:00 pm 2018 league year and free agency period begins. Top 51 begins. All clubs must be under the 2018 salary cap. Trading period for 2018 begins, after expiration of all 2017 contracts.

March 25-28 Annual League Meeting, Orlando, Florida.

April

April 9 Raiders begin offseason workout programs.

April 20 Deadline for Restricted Free Agents to sign offer sheets.

April 24-26 Voluntary minicamp

April 26-28 2018 NFL Draft, AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX.

May

May 3 deadline for Raiders to exercise 5th year option on 2015 first round pick Amari Cooper.

May 4-7 or 11-14 three-day post-Draft rookie minicamp from Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday.

May 14 Rookie Football Development Programs begin.

May 17-20 NFLPA Rookie Premiere.

May 21-23 Spring League Meeting, Atlanta, Georgia.

May 22-24 First OTA session

May 29-31 Second OTA session

June

June 4-7 Third OTA session

June 12-14 Mandatory minicamp

Late June Rookie Transition Program to be held at Raiders Alameda facility. Attendance is mandatory for all rookies.

July

July 16 at 1:00 pm deadline for designated Franchise Players to sign a multiyear contract or extension. After this date, the player may sign only a one-year contract for the 2018 season, and such contract cannot be extended until after the club’s last regular season game.

Last week of July Training camp report day, preceded by three-day pre-camp warm-up which includes quarterbacks, rookies, and select players.

August

Training camp and preseason dates TBD

August 2 Hall of Fame Game, Canton, Ohio.

August 2-5 Hall of Fame Weekend, Canton, Ohio.

September

September 1 at 1:00 pm roster cutdown deadline from 90 players to 53-man regular season roster.

September 2 before 9 am claiming period for players placed on waivers in roster cutdown.

September 2 at 10 am clubs may establish a practice squad of 10 players.

September 6 at 9:00 pm the Top 51 Rule expires for all NFL clubs.

September 6, 9-10 Regular Season opener.

Some key dates/events will be added/updated while others will be specified from a range when those details are released.
