Mike Waufle’s first NFL coaching job was as the Defensive Line coach under Jon Gruden in 1998. Now after 20 years as an NFL DL coach, Waufle is retiring.

Coming off a 6-year stint as the Defensive Line coach at Cal, Waufle then spent his first six years in the NFL coaching the Raiders’ Dline from 1998 to 2003.

It was the first of two stints as Raiders DL coach, returning to coach under Tom Cable and Hue Jackson in 2010-11, following a 6-year run as the DL coach for the New York Giants where he got a Super Bowl ring in part due to the dominant pass rush from Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora.

Since then he was the DL coach for the Rams for 5 years before taking the job in Buffalo for one season. Now the man whose coaching career began in 1979 has decided at the age of 63, he’s done.

Enjoy your retirement, Mike. It’s a long time coming.
