One drawback to having to wait on officially hiring Jon Gruden as the Raiders next head coach is those coaches with whom he’s had reported interest can be stolen away by other teams who need not wait. That happened today.
Gruden was reportedly interested in bringing Bears offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn onto his staff, presumably to the same position. But before he could do that, Washburn was hired by the Dolphins to be their next offensive line coach, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
The Miami Dolphins have hired former Bears OL coach Jeremiah Washburn to be their new OL coach. Washburn was with Miami as asst. OL coach in 2016.

Washburn spent just one season at the OL coach in Chicago. Typically another move that quick would require a promotion, but for whatever reason, that wasn’t the case this time.
Some have openly wondered why Gruden wouldn’t just hold onto Mike Tice. Well, with Washburn gone, and Tice still under contract with the team, that option could is still available to him. The catch is Tice’s current title is Assistant Head Coach - Offense, so Gruden would presumably have to be ok with that as well.
