Gruden’s agenda as head coach of the Raiders started before he had even officially taken the job. That was to lock in his coordinators. They had been reported before he would even admit he had the job. Tuesday, he made their hires official.
“I look forward to working with Reggie and his staff,” said Gruden. “We’ve got a lot of work to do. We’ve hired three coordinators already. Paul Guenther from the Cincinnati Bengals is official; great addition to our football team. Rich Bisaccia will be our special teams coordinator from the Dallas Cowboys and Greg Olson will be our offensive coordinator coming over from the LA Rams.”
Guenther has spent the past four seasons as the Bengals Defensive Coordinator. He had worked as a linebackers coach with Jon’s brother Jay for several years in Cincinnati while Jay was the Offensive Coordinator there.
Bisaccia has been the Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator for the Cowboys the past four seasons. He was the STC for Gruden during his entire 7-year tenure with the Buccaneers from 2002-08.
Olson returns to the Raiders after having been the team’s OC for three seasons under Dennis Allen and interim head coach Tony Sparano from 2012-14. He was Gruden’s QB coach his final season in Tampa.
Next up is position coaches which Gruden said the interviews will begin Wednesday morning. One of the rumored position coaches is his former quarterback Rich Gannon who was in attendance for the press conference Tuesday.
