Last week in Miami Marquel Lee saw twice as many snaps (28) as Derrick Johnson (14) on defense. It was the first time this season Lee had seen the field more than Johnson. And it turned out to be the start of something.
Against the Browns, Lee got the start and saw 65 snaps (79%) to Johnson’s 22. That’s nearly three times as many snaps for Lee.
“Marquel Lee is playing pretty good for us. He’s earning the right to play,” Gruden said Monday. “Sometimes it’s the situation, sometimes it’s just going with the hot hand. But we’re going to use all our linebackers here in the coming weeks.”
Lee’s 142 snaps is second among linebackers behind only Tahir Whitehead.
With Lee’s 43 more snaps in this game, he has now seen 24 more snaps on the season than Johnson (118). And he has done well in those snaps for the most part.
The 2017 5th round pick tied for second on the team with 9 combined tackles in this game (3 solo) and is 16 combined tackles (6 solo) is tied for fourth on the team — three more than Johnson.
