Raiders release LB Derrick Johnson

New, comments
NFL: Cleveland Browns at Oakland Raiders Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Today the Raiders announced that they have released veteran middle linebacker Derrick Johnson after six games with the team. Johnson was brought over as a free agent from the Chiefs, and is Kansas City's all time leading tackler.

However, Johnson's playing time has dwindled and Marquel Lee has become the more prominent linebacker in the middle. Johnson played about a quarter of the snaps against Seattle in London.

The 35 year old Johnson is a 13 year veteran of the NFL and his release was announced by Raiders head coach Jon Gruden during today's press conference. Johnson apparently requested his release from the Raiders and was granted it by the team today.

LB Jason Cabinda has been brought up from the practice squad in a corresponding move.
