Dolphins release DT Jordan Phillips, should Raiders sign him?

Today, the Miami Dolphins announced they have released defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. The former second-round pick out of Oklahoma has been unhappy with his playing time, having lost time in the defensive line rotation to other players. Phillips was noticeably displeased on the sideline during the Patriots game, and his teammates tried to calm him down to no avail.

Phillips reacted on Instagram thusly:

As you can see, Phillips doesn’t seem too broken up about being unemployed.

In his four-year career, Phillips has amassed 63 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He had two tackles against the Raiders in Week 3. With Justin Ellis on injured reserve and PJ Hall struggling with injury in recent weeks, the Raiders have signed defensive tackles Clinton McDonald and Johnathan Hankins to bolster the DT depth alongside Maurice Hurst.

The 6’6”, 341-pound Phillips is just as talented as either of those guys, and seems eager to prove that he belongs as a starter. With the hulking Ellis out for the year, Phillips could step in and provide much-needed run defense for the Raiders, who allowed over 200 yards on the ground to the Browns on Sunday.

Would you support the Raiders making a play for Phillips, or would he be too big of a locker room headache for this team?
