Derek Carr currently not on Raiders trade block

The Raiders look to be in full rebuilding mode, but there’s one guy the Raiders aren’t looking to get rid of right now- quarterback Derek Carr, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says that Carr has been told he is not one of the players the Raiders would consider trading. However, at the press conference today where the Raiders announced the trade of Amari Cooper, Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie said this:

Derek Carr might be the most valuable player remaining on the Raiders roster, but he may also be the hardest to move with his expensive long-term contract. In addition, Carr will be the hardest player to replace, considering how long it took the Raiders to find a franchise quarterback before Carr came along. Also, Jon Gruden seems to be a big fan of Carr, so it’s entirely possible the Raiders may start building around him instead of finding a new franchise quarterback.

Of course, nobody thought the Raiders would seriously trade Khalil Mack either, who is as close to a franchise player as you’ll find on the defensive end, but that happened. So while the Raiders are, apparently, not making Carr available right now, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen down the road. After all, no one is untouchable.
