This week the Raiders held workouts with several players, including a few wide receivers due to the injuries to Martavis Bryant and Jordy Nelson. Then they called up Saeed Blacknall from their own practice squad.

Blacknall is an undrafted rookie out of Penn State who impressed Gruden in training camp, earning him a spot on the practice squad. As is often the case with injury replacements on short notice, that’s where the team looked because they have familiarity with the offense.

Monday the team waived Kony Ealy from the roster and James Cowser from the practice squad. With Blacknall’s call up, that left two open spots on the practice squad. They have filled those spots with wide receivers Ardarius Stewart and Rashard Davis.

Stewart was a 3rd round pick by the Jets out of Alabama in 2017. He was suspended two games as a rookie for violating the league policy on Performance Enhancing Drugs. Coming into this season he was placed on IR, cut, re-signed to the practice squad, and then cut again a month ago.

Davis was an undrafted free agent out of James Madison who has had a couple stints on the Eagles’ practice squad.
