A lot of the talk leading up to this week’s game surrounded around the Raiders battered wide receiver room. Jordy Nelson and Martavis Bryant were both ruled out for the game earlier in the week so all eyes were on seventh round rookie Marcell Ateman.
Ateman certainly took advantage of his opportunity leading the team in catches (4) and yards (50). This week’s turning point play of the game came on the Raiders final drive of the game trailing 21-20, with 1:07 remaining.
On 2nd and 10, Derek Carr found Ateman down the left sideline for a big gain. The 32-yard play was the longest chunk play of the game for the Raiders. Although it was Seth Roberts’s 20-yard gain three plays later that eventually did the Cardinals in, Ateman’s catch was a backbreaker for the Cardinals defense.

Carr seems to have confidence in the young Ateman as he was targeted three times on the final drive. Ateman will have plenty of opportunities to showcase his talents in the remaining six games.
