Three weeks ago, the Raiders signed two defensive ends to try and bulk up their pass rush. Kony Ealy and Jacquies Smith signed on to the roster ahead of the team’s week 10 game against the Chargers. Now neither are on the Raiders roster.
Ealy was inactive for the game and was waived the day after. Smith played the past three games and Sunday against the Ravens he injured his Achilles, ending his season.
Despite Gruden’s assertion that Smith was “doing great things” for the Raiders, Smith didn’t record much in the way of stats in his three games with the Raiders. He had just two combined tackles. One of his two tackles was on a fumbled snap by Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen for a loss.
Smith’s most memorable moment was being flagged for offsides on third and 6 against the Chargers that led ultimately to a first down at the 12-yard-line.
A corresponding move has not yet been announced. Hey, maybe give Ealy an actual shot now.
