A day after reports said Reggie McKenzie would be out after the season as Raiders GM as part of a front office overhaul, McKenzie decided not to wait and just to end it now.
#Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie had a meeting with his scouts today where he informed them he was fired, per me and @TomPelissero. He was given the chance to stay the season, but is not expected to do so.

The firing of the General Manager is not the news you typically expect the day after the team’s biggest win of the season, but with the reports out there, it may have been best to just rip the band-aid off.
McKenzie took over as Raiders GM in 2012 following the death of longtime owner Al Davis. He was brought in to stabilize the Raiders front office. His first order of business was to let go of head coach Hue Jackson. Then it was the strip the team of it’s high priced players and rebuild.
That rebuild led to three ugly seasons in which the team went 11-37. Come 2015, the organization had some foundation pieces and was turning the corner. Much of that was the 2014 draft which featured top three picks Khalil Mack, Derek Carr, and Gabe Jackson.
They became a playoff team in 2016, going 12-4, but lost in the first round due to Derek Carr being lost to a broken leg. The team fell back down again in 2017, ushering in the Jon Gruden era and ushering out McKenzie prize picks Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper along with second round picks Mario Edwards Jr, Jihad Ward, and Obi Melifonwu. and now McKenzie as well.
