More turnover occurring in Oakland with still two weeks remaining in the season. The latest is the ousting of strength and conditioning coach Tom Shaw.
Jon Gruden fired Shaw last week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who said one of the team administrators delivered the news.
At the time of his hiring, Gruden called Shaw his ‘number one hire’ and spoke passionately about the work Shaw was to do with his players. The two knew each other from Shaw’s Top Speed Performance training center at Disney’s Wild World of Sports in Orlando Florida while Gruden worked for ESPN and lived in Tampa.
Gruden had high hopes for how much bigger, stronger, and faster the Raiders were going to be under Shaw. But mostly, as with any coach, the hopes were that he would have healthy players. They currently have 19 players on injured reserve and a 20th — Justin Ellis — who spent much of the season on IR before recently returning.
No word yet on Shaw’s staff which is all still listed on the Raiders’ website, though you have to assume all but Gruden’s son Deuce would leave with Shaw as he brought them in with him.
