Dwayne Harris is smart. He is very smart. As far as special teams players, you probably won’t find a more savvy player. Those smarts paid off for a 99-yard punt return for a touchdown in primetime against the Broncos.
The Broncos first possession ended with a punt. Punter Colby Wadman boots one that is let go and dribbles toward the end zone where Broncos coverage team kept it out of the end zone. Harris then alertly scoops it up at the one, runs out right and weaves through Broncos players 99 yards for the touchdown.

What a way to start the game. Nice play by Harris to spot the Raiders seven points before their offense has even taken the field.
It’s important to give credit to his blocking escort which saw key blocks from Kyle Wilber, Marquel Lee, Nick Nelson, and Nicholas Morrow.
This isn’t the first time we’ve marveled at Harris’s intelligence as a special teams maven. He made a play a few weeks ago against the Chiefs in which he stepped out of bounds before touching the ball which drew a flag on the Chiefs for punting out of bounds, giving the Raiders the ball at the 40.

It’s plays like this that made Harris a Pro Bowler in 2016. It’s just too bad the Pro Bowl teams are selected with still two games left in the regular season or he might have a shot at it again after that play tonight.
