Wide receiver Jordy Nelson many suitors, will visit Raiders

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

The moment Jordy Nelson got the ax in Green Bay, teams began lining up to sign the 32-year-old. According to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo! Sports, the Raiders are among them.

The others include the Patriots (of course), Ravens, Seahawks, and 49ers (who seem to be competing with the Raiders for every free agent out there).

Nelson’s link to the Raiders is fairly clear. His former wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett is now the wide receivers coach in Oakland.

NFL.com’s Chris Wesseling sees Oakland as the number one most likely destination for Nelson.

UPDATE: Then Schultz -- same guy with the original report here — goes and puts the Patriots as Nelson’s choice.

UPDATE: Regardless of whether Nelson was targeting the Patriots, he will be keeping his options open and is scheduled to visit the Raiders Wednesday.

Nelson was one of the few expected cap casualties this year that was always considered a good fit to come to Oakland. The wide receiver free agent class was very sparse otherwise, with a lot of receivers getting way overpaid. So, this would be a good get for the Raiders.
