Report: Raiders could move on from Michael Crabtree if Jordy Nelson is signed

NFL: New York Jets at Oakland Raiders Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Just hours after being cut by the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, Jordy Nelson has already lined up a visit with the Oakland Raiders for Wednesday. At first, this might sound like great news for the Raider Nation, but a possible Nelson signing might come with a caveat.

Oakland signing Nelson might spell the end for Michael Crabtree and the Raiders, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Oakland needs to clear cap space if they hope to fix the defense through free agency and Crabtree and can be let go without any cap penalty.

Going forward, the Raiders are going to have to face many more tough decisions on players due to cap space. But that is what comes with having a plethora of young talent awaiting new contracts.

While we don’t know what Nelson would be getting from Oakland if he signs, Crabtree is due a little more than $7.7 million in 2018.

Recent wide receiver contracts including Sammy Watkins getting $16 million per year, Allen Robinson getting $14 million per year and Paul Richardson getting $8 million per year, Crabtree’s $7.7 million salary seems reasonable. We don’t yet know what numbers Jordy Nelson will command, but based on the contracts given out already, it could be more than Crabtree.

Raider Nation, what would you rather do?
