The NFL may still be dead set against having the Raiders and 49ers face off in the preseason, but they want the world to see them face each other in the regular season. The two teams will face off in prime time this season according to NBC Bay Area.
The report didn’t specify which primetime game they would face each other, let alone which week of the season, but they will take the field under the lights of primetime.
Update: The primetime game is set for Thursday Night Football in week 9, November 1.
These two teams last faced each other December 7, 2014 — a 24-13 Raiders victory. It was one of just three Raiders wins in Derek Carr’s rookie season.
Their former annual preseason match-up ended in 2011 with several acts of violence among fans at Candlestick Park. That was their last time playing in San Francisco at all, with their last regular season meeting being in 2010.
The only ever regular season primetime game the Raiders had against the 49ers was in 1994 on Monday Night Football.
