The Raiders kicked off their second day of the 2018 NFL Draft selecting with the 57th overall pick after trading down with the Tennessee Titans. How does the staff and Silver & Black Pride grade the selection?

Oakland gained an extra third round pick from trading down, and also addressed a key need on their interior defensive line. The problem I have with this pick is that like Kolton Miller, Hall is a project as he has a high upside but needs plenty of coaching. There were better players available including Maurice Hurst and Isaiah Oliver.

Gotta admire Gruden and company for sticking to their board. Takes a lot of guts. PJ Hall lived in the backfield in his time at small school Sam Houston State. He’s the gap shooter that everybody wanted, not to mention he tested off the charts at his pro-day. Once again Raiders got their guy after trading down.

I had PJ Hall in my mock draft... in the fifth round. Four round seemed like a possibility. But the second round? I dunno about that. He played less competition at Sam Houston State, though he put up some pretty incredible numbers. He never missed a start in four seasons at Sam Houston State, finishing with 42.0 sacks, 86.5 tackles for loss, 9 forced fumbles, 33 passes defended and 14 blocked kicks. Again, just as in the first round, at least they traded down before reaching for him.

Hall isn’t a big name, as he comes from a small school and Reggie usually takes his small-school gems later in the draft. But this is a guy the coaching staff can really work with. He measures like an Aaron Donald clone and plays with high energy and a big motor. They traded down and got some extra value, and also addressed a serious area of need. The team still needs a linebacker or two and maybe a corner, but this is a great start.
