On March 19 the Raiders added journeyman backup quarterback and Marshawn Lynch’s cousin Josh Johnson to the roster. Three days later, they re-signed last year’s backup, EJ Manuel. And now the team is back to the same three QB’s they had last year as they have released Johnson from the team.
The Raiders’ three quarterbacks are Derek Carr, EJ Manuel, and former 4th round pick Connor Cook. They went into camp last year with just these three, with Manuel winning the primary backup job behind Carr. Cook was inactive all but the one game Manuel started for Carr when due to his back injury.
Johnson has long been part of Marshawn’s Family First Foundation along with fellow Oakland native and friend Marcus Peters.
A former 5th round pick, Johnson has bounced around the league, spending time with 11 different NFL teams along with a short stint with the Sacramento Mount Lions of the UFL.
The release of Johnson could mean they plan on adding someone, though we don’t yet know who that is yet.
