Monday the Raiders continued locking in their rookie class with the signing of punter Johnny Townsend to a 4-year deal.
His full contract is projected at $2.68 million over four years with a 2018 salary of $534,389. That amount is outside the top 51 and therefore does not count against the 2018 salary cap.
Townsend was selected 173rd overall in April’s Draft. In four seasons at Florida, Townsend appeared in 44 games, totaling 240 punts for 11,090 yards (46.2 avg.) with 90 punts placed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. Townsend finished his collegiate career as the Gators’ all-time leading punter in yards and punts, and ranks first in SEC history in career punting average.
The Raiders now have three drafted rookies under contract after having previously signed second round defensive tackle PJ Hall and 6th round linebacker Azeem Victor.
That leaves six Raiders draft picks unsigned — first round OT Kolton Miller, third round OT Brandon Parker, third round DE Arden Key, fourth round CB Nick Nelson, fifth round DT Maurice Hurst, and seventh round WR Marcell Ateman.
