Upon drafting of the Raiders rookie class, they were each given numbers. Some of those will be permanent, but some lasted only a short time. In the two weeks since those players wore those numbers for the team’s rookie minicamp, three of them have switched numbers.
Round 4 pick cornerback Nick Nelson initially wore 45 (not really a DB number). He has switched to number 38 which was TJ Carrie’s number
Round 6 pick Azeem Victor initially wore 56, but when the team signed Derrick Johnson, Victor switched to 57 so Johnson could have 56.
Round 7 pick wide receiver Marcell Ateman initially wore 11, which was Sebastian Janikowski’s number for 18 years. He has switched to 88, a number more fitting a receiver. It was most recently worn by tight end Clive Walford.
Since the initial draft class and priority undrafted free agents were signed, there have been five tryout players added to the roster. They too got numbers.
Tryout players:
TE Paul Butler — 84
FB Dallin Leavitt — 45
FB Henry Poggi — 44
LS Drew Scott — 49
RB Chris Warren III — 34
