We’re at 83 days now until the Raiders open the 2018 season. There is a new number 83 for the Raiders. It’s undrafted rookie tight end Marcus Baugh. The former Ohio State Buckeye is trying to make the Raiders roster despite little production at the college level.
The best to ever wear the number is not a receiver at all. It was defensive end Ted ‘Mad Stork’ Hendricks. But the number was also worn with distinction by former wide receiver Willie Gault.
Gault spent the final six years of his 11-year NFL career with the Raiders. In that time he caught 149 passes for 2985 yards to move into 14th all-time in Raiders history. All while averaging an astounding 20 yards per catch.
Amari Cooper currently sits at 203 catches for 2903 yards (14.3 ypc) over his first three seasons. Putting him exactly 83 yards away from overtaking number 83 Willie Gault for that 14th spot in the Raiders record books.
Obviously, one good game could accomplish that for Coop. Last season, he had 95 yards in the first two games before having 51 yards in the next four games. Previous seasons, he wasn’t nearly as hot and cold.
