This is my favorite experience meeting the Raiders, what’s yours?

With training camp around the corner, I thought it would be a cool idea to share my favorite story meeting a Raiders player(s), and encouraging the community here at Silver & Black Pride to do the same.

Back in 2005 when I was an 8-year-old troublemaker, I was asked by my grandparents if I would be interested in attending a Raiders Training Camp practice in Napa. Of course, I answered with a resounding “Heck yes!!” It turned out, my grandparents were friends with former Raiders CEO Amy Trask, so when we arrived in Napa she was there to greet us and show us around the facility.

I will never forget how amazed I was at the size of the players.

One of the cooler experiences from the trip I remember was former head coach Norv Turner having my younger brother and I run sprints on one of the practice fields. Unfortunately, I must not have been fast enough because I left Napa without a contract that day.

As for meeting the players, at the end of practice, Trask allowed my brother and I to approach the members of the team and ask for autographs. Some of those players included Charles Woodson, Randy Moss, Warren Sapp, Sebastian Janikowski, Shane Lechler, Nnamdi Asomugha, Derrick Burgess, and Jerry Porter.

I specifically remember meeting Moss, as he was listening to a portable CD-player holding a giant stack of at least five CD’s. He along with the rest of the team were incredibly nice and patient towards my brother and I.

To say it was an incredible experience would be an understatement. I am hoping to make it back to Napa for the first time since that year, and I am looking forward to being able to cherish the experience a bit more as I’m older and know just a tad more about football than I did at 8 years old.
