Months after signing 10-year deal with Raiders, Jon Gruden comically among top ten odds to be first head coach fired

I’m sorry, what?

I don’t know how they come up with these odds. One of the more laughable betting lines came out this week. It was the odds for which head coaches will be the first NFL head coach fired. And somehow, as if it should be listed in sarcasm font, Jon Gruden is in the top ten.

And no, I’m not talking about his brother Jay Gruden. He is listed there too, at fifth shortest odds. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it, but you keep scrolling and there, tied with John Harbaugh and Pete Carroll at +2800 (28/1) odds is Jon Gruden.

Gruden just signed an unprecedented 10-year $100 million deal this offseason to return to coaching the Oakland Raiders. That alone would suggest he will be around for a while. At very least Mark Davis wouldn’t be firing him anytime soon. One would figure at least a few years.

It could be oddsmakers are just dangling it out there seeing who will throw their money away. Don’t be that guy.
