What condition Raiders position is in ahead of training camp: Center

New, comments

We check on each Raiders position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical.

Starter: Rodney Hudson

Backups: Jon Feliciano, James Stone, Cameron Hunt

Hudson is among the best centers in the NFL right now. Pro Football Focus has touted him as THE best pass blocking center. And his chemistry with Derek Carr is invaluable.

Last year former 4th round pick Jon Feliciano went from being a decent guard to an equally proficient center. The Raiders will enjoy having him as an insurance plan for one more season.

Stone was signed to the practice squad last season. Hunt was signed this offseason. The two have been swapping reps as the third string center. One of them could have a shot at the practice squad this season, but breaking the Hudson/Feliciano stronghold seems unlikely.

Condition: Strong

A Pro Bowl starter who hasn’t missed a game since he arrived in Oakland is plenty. Having a capable backup in Feliciano adds a level of security and peace of mind.
