We never believed it. Last season when the Raiders played in Washington, Josh Norman accused Amari Cooper of talking trash to him. Coop denied it. Knowing both players, but mostly knowing Coop, there was simply no way he instigated anything with Norman.
It took a while, but Norman is coming clean. He was on one of his rants after the game. He went off about how Michael Crabtree said he was going to catch 200 yards that day, to which he said; “So please, whatever you do, do not run your mouth if you’re a wide receiver and expect to show up on Sundays, because I’m telling you, we are here and we are waiting.”
Crabtree has a history of talking trash and there is a history of elite corners shutting him up in epic fashion (see Richard Sherman in the playoffs a couple years back).
But Norman threw Coop in there too. And there is anything but a history of Coop talking trash. If anything Coop could use some trash talk abilities.
“Whatever that young cat said, Coop, go and take it back,” Norman said of Amari Cooper.
Cooper denied having said anything.
“I don’t know where he gets that from,” Cooper said. “As long as I’ve been here, I’ve never bragged or anything before or after a game. So I don’t know where that comes from.”
This week Norman appeared on a podcast where he said as it turned out, maybe Coop didn’t talk trash. According to AL.com Norman said teammate Jonathan Allen copped to lying about Coop talking trash because he “just really wanted to win” and figured getting Norman fired up like that was a good way to do that.
A Raiders fan who was in the audience asked him about the incident, which is what sparked Norman’s revelation.
“I felt bad I couldn’t take it back,” Norman said. “So I’m apologizing now to you.”
Well, glad that’s cleared up. Coop’s name is cleared. Whew!
