Ranking the AFC West by position: Tight end

The talent level at tight end runs the spectrum. From elite to solid, to unknown, to known to be awful. Let’s see which teams have which in the AFC West.

1. ChiefsTravis Kelce

You won’t find many better in the NFL at the tight end position than Travis Kelce. He was an All Pro in 2016 and has caught over 80 passes for over 1000 yards each of the past two seasons. This offseason he landed at 24 overall in the NFL Top 100. He’s simply a beast.

2. RaidersJared Cook

Easily the second best tight end in this division behind Kelce. In part because Cook’s 688 yards receiving led the Raiders last season and in part because the Broncos and Chargers have some major question marks at the position.

3. Broncos – Jake Butt

Butt was the team’s 5th round pick last season. He would have gone a lot higher, but had a torn ACL which he suffered in his senior season at Michigan. It was his second torn ACL. He has great potential if he can stay healthy and if he is able to fully return to form from his injuries.

4. Chargers – Virgil Green/Sean Culkin

Both these guys are trash. But they weren’t expected to be great. Then in OTA’s the Chargers lost Hunter Henry to a torn ACL and now they will be relying on these two to replace him. Good luck with that.
